Biography

A painter, art teacher and illustrator, Sonia Handford trained at Wimbledon School of Art (1942-45) and gained her Art Teachers Diploma from the University of London 1946. She later gained a B.A. Combined Honours degree in English Literature and History of Art. Her extensive teaching career included Sydenham School for Girls, Whitechapel Art Gallery, St Albans School, and Hampstead Comprehensive. She travelled widely during her life, early on in Europe, and later to Egypt, Russia and the U.S.A. Her occasional exhibitions included Wandsworth Town Hall (1963) and Shaftesbury Arts Centre (2004).
